Many of the most wonderful culinary themed movies come from outside the United States. French actress Juliette Binoche has starred in at least two: Chocolat, from 2000, and a new one that is reaching American screens now.

The Taste of Things is set in France in 1889, and was a hit at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. It was France’s entry in the international category of the Academy Awards, but did not make the final group.

The film follows the life of private chef Dodin Bouffant, played by Benoit Magimel, who lives with his chef de cuisine and lover Eugénie, played by Juliette. In real life, the pair were romantic partners from 1998 to 2003, and share a daughter.
