When I hurt my back in fall, 2022, I tried getting relief from a chiropractor, massage therapist and acupuncturist. The latter asked me how much I weighed, and told me that the back problems I was experiencing might be easier to manage if I was thinner.

By then, I’d eaten pretty much every dish I wanted to sample in New Orleans, and figured 2023 was the year when I needed to focus on my health. I started with Weight Watchers, but found that keeping track of points was stressing me out, and robbing me of enjoying food.

Then, I found a book with a system that made much more sense for me.
