Ever since my mother taught me to make apple crisp, I’ve justified it as breakfast. It has oatmeal, and fruit, and it’s wonderful when warmed up and topped with some vanilla yogurt.

Of course, people have been eating doughnuts, Pop Tarts and various forms of Danish pastries for years. And some iterations of bagels, such as blueberry or mixed berry, tread pretty closely to the sweet side.

More recently, overnight oats and chia seed puddings have joined the breakfast buffet. And, this breakfast craze isn’t stopping with something as simple as oats layered with dates and nuts, or chia seed and yogurt parfaits.

Fans are migrating to ingredients you might expect to find in candy stores and ice cream shops.
