Discover Rosa Parks’ Pancake Recipe - And Its Secret Ingredient
A perennially popular request from the Library of Congress
The Library of Congress is the home to the archive of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks. There are thousands of pages of material and numerous photos, but one of the most popular items is her recipe for pancakes.
To mark Black History Month, the library posted a photo of the hand written recipe, which has a secret ingredient.
The recipe is written on the back of a deposit envelope for the First Independence National Bank of Detroit, where she and her husband moved after the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott in 1955.
Back in 2017, Dan Pashman took a deep look at the recipe in an episode of his Sporkful podcast, and also wrote about it for NPR.
