Things have changed a little for this perennial promotion
In many places around the country, late January marks the start of Restaurant Week. The idea actually began in summer, 1992. It was was created in New York City by Tim Zagat, the creator of the Zagat Survey, and Joe Baum, a New York restaurateur.
Their intent was to encourage delegates, journalists and others at the Democratic National Convention to dine out. It originally was lunch only. But the idea expanded and the dates shifted to encompass the slowest months of the year, when cold weather and tight post holiday budgets may keep people home.
This year, Restaurant Weeks arrive with the industry eager for business. But there are things diners need to keep in mind before they book.
