The past couple of days, New Orleans has been shivering through some of the coldest temperatures in recent memory. All across the city, tropical flowers and shrubs are wrapped in blankets and coverings amid the freeze warnings.
People have dug out tights and puffy coats and hunting gear, and piled extra blankets on their beds.
I could not be happier. This fresh, cold air and the clear blue skies feel like home.
When I was back in Michigan in November, I cracked the window open in my brother’s guest room so I could inhale some 17F air at night. I love looking up at a cloudless winter sky. Pilots say a clear, cold night is a wonderful time to fly, because turbulence goes away and you simply glide along.
As much as New Orleans can’t wait to warm up, I hope the cool temperatures linger just a little longer, so I can enjoy the best of both my worlds.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas Day, and a good end to 2022.
