When I moved to New Orleans, I left a carpeted house and moved into an apartment with beautiful wood floors. A few weeks after I got here, I noticed a twinge in my hip every time I stepped out of bed. I started looking for reasons.
A friend suggested that my bed might be too soft, and it was jamming my leg into the floor with more force than happened back in Ann Arbor.
Perhaps a new mattress would help, my friend said, but before that, why not try flipping yours? I did, by myself. Big mistake. I wound up with a pinched nerve, and deep pain every day when I get out of bed.
