New Orleans has kicked off its season of Revillion dinners. Traditionally, the Revillion followed Christmas Eve mass. Roman Catholics fasted before the service (remember the old rule that you could not eat before communion?) and enjoyed a lavish repast upon arriving home. The meal revived them, which is the definition of Revillion.
I’ll be attending at least one dinner this season, and the schedule got me thinking about the most lavish meal I have ever eaten, or perhaps the one that lingers in my mind.
