When I was in grade school, I discovered biographies. I was enthralled by the stories of real people doing exciting things, in places I could visit.
One of those people was Emma Goldman, who was dubbed The Queen of the Anarchists. I’m not sure what our school librarian was thinking, putting a biography of a revolutionary within reach of children, but I found her 19th century views fascinating
You may know her best for saying, “The most violent element in society is ignorance.” I kind of like, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution.”
As I discovered, Goldman was also a food lover - you can find her recipe for cheese blintzes here - and despite being kicked out of the U.S. in 1919, her philosophy has application in the 21st century business world. That makes her a perfect topic for the next CulinaryWoman giveaway.
The winner will receive an autographed copy of Going into Business with Emma Goldman: 18 Anarchist Lessons for Business and Life, a pamphlet by Ari Weinzweig, the co-founder of Zingerman’s.
Ari can dedicate the inscription to you or the person you designate. We’ll make sure it arrives in time for the holidays.
